10:22 pm - For Those "Christmas Music in July" Impluses...
Yeah, so sometimes I feel like listening to Christmas music when it's nowhere near Christmas.

The good thing about Traditional Trinidadian Christmas Music ("Parang") is that it does not sound like normal Western Christmas Music. You can listen to it openly and most people don't know what it is because Parang is in Spanish, but sung with a Trinidadian accent by people who don't actually know Spanish (who learned it from other people or records sung by others who did not know Spanish.)

11:01 am - Christmas Music Commentary
New favourite Christmas Tunes of the season:

- My Grown-Up Christmas List (Kelly Clarkson)
- A Christmas Prayer (Nick Jonas)
- Driving Home For Christmas (Chris Rea)

And why the heck do the Christmas Radio Stations keep playing "My Favourite Things"? I like the song and everything, but what does it have to do with Christmas or Winter?

10:17 pm - Song: Can You Feel The Love Tonight (Elton John)
I was listening to this on my studio headphones last night and picked up on something that I had never before realised: It has a french horn in it. And the player is DAMN GOOD. All these years I thought it was some kind of synthesizer. But the player produced such incredibly pure and consistent tones that on lesser speakers I didn't even make out the fact that it was a horn.

I did play the french horn for a short stint in high school, and I know how challenging it is to make that instrument sound really good. So that only deepens my respect for the player on this CD,

Amazing.

08:10 pm - Jesse Cook Concert
Last night I went to Jesse Cook's concert at the local arts centre.

Friggin' awesome.

But I must say one thing:

STUPID COMPLACENT AUDIENCE FULL OF OLD PEOPLE!!!! When you stand up and carry on and pull the musicians back out for the third encore, you are NOT SUPPOSED TO SIT DOWN!!! It's a friggin rumba fiesta and it's supposed to be like a dance party. Jesse made this plainly clear several times. Even the musicians would get discouraged when you sit down and fold your hands.

Jesse Cook = A+

Audience = F-

AUDIENCE, YOU SUCKED!!

08:55 pm - My Neighbor Totoro
I absolutely love the soundtrack to My Neighbor Totoro. It perfectly captures the wonders of childhood.

<----- Just watched it for the first time.

Honestly I thought the huge Totoro guy was really scary.

I actually had the movie backlogged since sometime in 2006.

01:15 pm - Audio Quality
I received a new mp3 player for Christmas; Sandisk Sansa e280 (8GB Flash). (I think iPod's characteristics don't warrant its incredible popularity.)

Today I plugged it into my computer speakers, and I must say: WOW. The audio quality on this thing beats the pants off the MCP-T SoundStorm chipset built into my motherboard. The MCP-T is better than a Creative Labs Audigy 1. And the Sansa just blows it away in terms of the detail and clarity in the midrange and high pitch sounds. I'm hearing thing I never before heard in my songs.

Quite a nice player, this is.

06:58 pm - Audio
Just realised my WinAMP mixer was all screwed up.

No wonder my mp3 collection sounds so much better on the headphones at work. (I mean they are higher end headphones than my speakers, but still, the difference was disturbing.)

09:25 pm - Big Yellow Taxi
For years I've heard this song, but I was never really able to make out the lyrics. I finally looked them up.

Wow, I like this song a lot more than I did before. Guess I'm just a commie tree-hugger.

Now, back to the Stanley Cup 2006 Final.

09:41 pm - Stevie Wonder - A Time For Love
Holy cow, Stevie Wonder's new album is really excellent. I absolutely love the way he brings his theme of love, accord, unity and positivity with some really cool sounding grooves. A totally enjoyable 77 minutes. Highly recommended.

This thing has an obscene amount of features to keep techies like me happy. Ogg Vorbis support. Mounts as a mass storage device. FM Radio Recording. Super-nice build quality. I approve.

I'm considering acquiring one after I sell off my iPod (on which my sister's bf has first dibs.)

04:54 pm - Songs
All last night my brain kept playing that "Moms like you use Jiff" jingle from that peanut butter ad that ran so many years ago.

And all today it was "The Power of Love" by Huey Lewis and The Blues. At least that one is explainable because it was featured prominently in Back To The Future.

I have no idea how he was able to so beautifully capture the essence of Hobbits in a single three-minute song. This piece of music is just magic.
