05:46 pm - Blood Type Got my blood donor card today. My type is O+. And I am so disappointed because I was totally hoping for AB+ or similar. And seriously, I am nothing like the O-type personality. 09:31 pm - Thoughts About Blood Tests If you get tested for HIV, they tell you about how the tests are so accurate. The ELISA test is almost foolproof and even if you get a false positive, they use the Western Blot confirmatory test which they claim is basically completely foolproof. But if you give blood, they go on about how the tests are not foolproof and they simply can't catch everything due to false negatives. The forms go on about how they depend on you to give accurate information about which risk-group you are in so they can accurately asses whether or not you are a risk, even though they do completely test every donation. 07:19 pm - I Donated Blood Today It was my first time. Rather overdue for me I guess because it's free and you're helping a lot of people. And when I was in that sitting area afterwards getting some snacks, the guy sitting next to me said that it was his 107th time. He was 68 years old. WOW. 07:30 pm - First Snow Of The Season + Passport I was expecting to wait 2-3 more weeks for this. But the scary part was that unlike most "first snows," this one was accompanied winds that actually felt and smelled like Winter. Good thing I brought my winter gloves from my parents' house last weekend. In other news, I headed off the procrastination and submitted my passport application a whole four months before my current passport expires. I hear that some nations and the EU don't even allow you in if your passport is within 6 months of expiration. And of course you *always* need to travel right when your passport is expiring. 12:04 am - Passport Photos My passport expires in early 2007. I will send in my new passport application soon. Got my new passport photos today and I look a lot less like a terrorist in this one. Lack of a moustache has something to do with it, I think. Still, it's a B&W photo that looks like a mug shot; the passport people are really picky about the photos and are much less likely to reject B&W ones even though colour images are also accepted. 09:04 pm - I Love Dollarama! Where would I be without Dollarama stores? Never have I ever seen any Dollar Stores with such a great variety of useful things as Dollarama. My kitchen and bathrooms are laden with some very nice Dollarama wares. Why go to Home Outfitters and pay 5-10X as much when you can get a perfectly good spatula or set of coasters for a buck? 08:36 pm - Hot Pads Strange things are happening at my place. My other hot pad went missing. My mom gave me two really nice ones when I moved into my new place, and one vanished maybe a month after I moved in. I had settled on believing that I had somehow taken it out with the garbage by mistake. And now the other one vanished. I used it last night. I remember seeing it on the stovetop. And now it's going.
